Set up SSL for free

We offer free SSL certificates for our costumers on their domains so the users of their website can access it via a secure encrypted connection. This is done using automatic SSL certificates provided by COMODO.

Why use SSL certificates?

It is always a good idea to increase the security of your websites, both for yourself and your visitors. By using SSL certificates, you prevent your traffic from being intercepted, which is dangerous when you e.g. log in to a page as a user or when you as an owner log in to your e-mail.

SSL certificate setup

Our server checks several times a day whether your website (or several of your websites) qualifies for an SSL certificate. The following must apply before an SSL certificate is installed on your website:

  • The DNS for your domain must point to the IP address of your web hosting solution
  • You must not have installed another SSL certificate
  • It must be possible to read files from the root directory of your website

If your website qualifies for a free SSL certificate, but still doesn't have an SSL certificate installed, it's because your account isn't being checked all the time. However, it only happens a few times a day. If you need an SSL certificate quickly, you can contact our customer service, who can manually start a check.

You can also manually initiate an SSL check like this:

  1. Go to https://your-domain.dk/cpanel
  2. Go to Security > SSL/TLS Status
    Klik på 'SSL/TLS Status'
  3. Press 'Run AutoSSL'. It takes about 20 minutes for the system to set up SSL

If a certificate cannot be set up, you can return to Security > SSL/TLS Status and see why the certificate could not be created.

If you try to visit your site without SSL you will be greeted with a warning like this:

If an SSL certificate is installed, the address bar will look like this:

Congratulations on your new free SSL certificates and your top secure connection. All certificates are automatically renewed.

Note that if you access your page via https://your-domain.dk without having updated your CMS to use HTTPS, your CSS and JavaScript files will not be loaded properly.
