How do I create a mail filter?

A mail filter allows you to move or delete incoming emails for a particular mail account based on the subject field of the message,  or its sender or recipient.

OBS: This tutorial is based upon using the control panel to setup mail filters. However, it is also possible to set these up in the webmail under Settings -> Account -> filter rules.

To create a mail filter, you must first log in to eControlPanel via http://mail.mit-domain.com:8080

Then you need to go to Email -> Email Mailbox and click on the mail account for which you want to create a mail filter.

Now click on the Mail filter tab and then on the green button labelled Add New filter

You will then need to fill out the following fields:
  • Enter an optional name next to Name so you can easily find it again.
  • Next to Source you can choose whether the rule should be based on subject (Subject), sender (From) or recipient (To).
  • In the line below it is possible to choose whether the rule should contain (Contains), precisely be (Is), start with (Begins with) or end with (Ends with) a particular string that is defined in the next line below.
  • Next to to Action it is possible to choose what to do with a mail message that matches a defined rule. You can either choose to move it to a specific folder, which you define on the line below (Move to) or you can choose to delete it (Delete).
